why iyengar yoga
Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja (BKS) Iyengar has dedicated his life to the study of yoga, making it accessible to all. He maintains a strict standard of teaching and shares his knowledge with Iyengar teachers
As an Iyengar teacher, I am trained in the use of props to assist the practitioner in each asana (posture), to allow more comfort within their pose.
Pupils learn through a systematic programme of asana (posture) allowing the body to learn movement in a structured way. The practise involves correct placement within the pose, so that the body feels energized and not strained. Pranayama (breath control) is gradually introduced once students have a firm foundation in their yoga practise. Yoga both relaxes and energizes the body and mind bringing vitality, flexibility, strength, concentration, self-confidence and mental calm. Yoga allows us to overcome the restrictions that we can change and accept the restrictions that we can not.Yoga is suitable for all types of people and all levels of fitness.
Practising Yoga helps you overcome and prevent many stresses, strains, aches and pains, promoting a firm foundation for health and well-being.
